Bracelets bring movement and polish to the wrist, one of the most expressive parts of the body. Whether you prefer a delicate chain, a sparkling tennis bracelet, a bold cuff or a colourful beaded strand, the right bracelet can finish an outfit beautifully. This guide covers types, sizing and styling.

How to measure your wrist

  1. Wrap a soft measuring tape (or a strip of paper) around your wrist just below the wrist bone.
  2. Note the measurement where it meets snugly.
  3. Add room for comfort depending on how you want it to fit:
Fit Add to wrist size
Snug About 1 cm (0.4 in)
Comfortable About 1.5–2 cm (0.6–0.8 in)
Loose About 2.5–3 cm (1–1.2 in)

Charm and beaded bracelets usually need a little extra room because charms and beads take up space.

Cuffs: fitting tips

Cuffs have an opening at the back. To put one on, slide the narrowest part of your wrist (the side) through the opening, then rotate the cuff into place. Avoid prying the cuff open repeatedly, as this can weaken the metal and crack plating.

Styling bracelets

Everyday

A fine chain bracelet or a slim cuff with a watch.

Office

One understated bracelet; avoid noisy bracelets that clink on desks and keyboards.

Evening

A CZ tennis bracelet or a bold cuff with a sleeveless or three-quarter-sleeve outfit.

Festive and traditional

Bangles and kada are the classic choice, but a decorative kundan-style or meenakari bracelet is a lighter alternative.

Stacking

Combine a chain, a beaded bracelet and a slim cuff, or mix a watch with bracelets. See Bracelet Stacking.

Bracelets and sleeves

  • Sleeveless and short sleeves: anything goes.
  • Three-quarter sleeves: perfect for showing bracelets.
  • Long sleeves: cuffs worn over fitted sleeves can look chic; chunky bracelets under loose sleeves may disappear.

Comfort and practicality

  • Choose secure clasps (lobster or box clasps) for chain bracelets.
  • Avoid very loose bracelets during work that involves your hands.
  • Remove bracelets before washing hands, cooking and exercising.
  • Check for rough edges on cuffs, which can scratch skin.

Caring for bracelets

  • Wipe after wear, especially the inside surface.
  • Store chain bracelets fastened, in separate pouches.
  • Lay cuffs flat; avoid stacking heavy pieces on top.
  • Keep beaded and elastic bracelets dry.

Key takeaway

Measure your wrist, choose the fit you prefer, and select a style that suits your day. A few well-chosen bracelets, from a delicate chain to a bold cuff, will cover every occasion.
